Pitt hosts West Virginia in the 107th Backyard Brawl this Saturday. Last year West Virginia got the win 17-6, with their starting QB going down early. However, this is a much different Pitt team than last year, with an entirely revamped offense. This is thanks to the high pace and aggressive new offensive coordinator from Western Carolina, Kade Bell, combined with high-performing transfers. Starting with Alabama transfer QB Eli Holsten, who has 638 passing yards and 6 passing touchdowns after the first two games, and Western Carolina transfer RB Desmond Reid who has 410 all-purpose yards, going for 100+ yards in both rushing and receiving against Cincinnati last week. This does not bode well for West Virginia as they allowed 306 passing yards against Kent State and 216 the week before versus Penn State. This will be a close hard-fought game, but in the end, this new-look Pitt team is a no-brainer plus points at home against a weak West Virginia secondary.
