Dean Kramer has struggled at BOS stadium. Giving up 14 runs across his only 3 starts in BOS. Sale just gave up 6 runs to these same Orioles in the spring. Batters have a .288 BA against Sale through the spring. These two just combined for 19 runs on 26 hits on Opening day. That was a competitive game that they each tried to win. Their bullpens are both very weak and strict liabilities. Both of their bats were hitting extremely well towards the end of spring and that’s carried over into the regular season.
Obviously he’s one of the best hitters in the world but this is about the pitching match-up. A’s SP Shintaro Fujinami is making his first career MLB Start. He played in Japan for years, along with Ohtani, so he’s familiar with his stuff. It’s just a huge moment for Fujinami facing Ohtani. Shohei is practically a god over in Japan, those nerves will be rocking when Ohtani steps into the Box. Shohei dominated the WBC and went 1 for 3 in his Opening Day game. Fujinami is also a right handed pitcher, who Ohtani statistically does much better against.
