Philly Head Coach Nick Siriani has never played starters in the final pre-season game. Indianapolis on the other hand will start their 1's and rookie QB Anthony Richardson. Still don't think that's enough to push this over.
Richardson started week 1 of the NFL pre-season against Buffalo's 2nd and 3rd stringers on defense and struggled. He completed 7 of 12 passes for 67 yards with a very ugly interception.
Indy was tied 30th in points per game, 27th in total offense, and 31st in sacks allowed per game last season. They're also now without star RB Jonathon Taylor as he seeks a trade. The Colts starting Unit simply isn't that good. They're also led by a Rookie QB who has yet to show any type of success in the NFL. They scored 7 points in the first half of both other pre-season games.
Despite no starters, PHI is going to put out a very good 2nd unit. PHI ranked 2nd in total defense and 7th in points allowed per game in 2022. They also ranked first with 3.9 sacks per game.They then added 4 defensive prospects and arguably the #1 defensive player in the draft. There's legitimate starting talent playing back-up in PHI.
Last week PHI's back-up Unit held the CLE Browns offense to just 6 first half points. A pair of field goals. One came courtesy of a Trey Sermon Fumble in PHI territory too. CLE was led by rookie QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson who's impressed thus far. He's an excellent runner whom they bottled up. Richardson is another talented runner, but being QB1 of the future, it's unlikely they run him much.
The Eagles will start Mariota again. He's completed 16 of 28 for 144 yards and no scores through the first two pre-season games. He's also going to see some starters for the Colts. While not great last year, the Colts did rank 15th in Total Defense. It's also much harder to play great defense with such an abysmal offense. Mariota isn't going to play with any starters either.
PHI could elect to put rookie QB Tanner McKee in at some point in the first half after impressing in each of the previous 2 pre-season games. Much different ball game playing against the 1's and 2's compared to the 3's and 4's though. Philly managed just 3 points in the first half against CLE's back-up unit.
