Week 8 of the College Football season kicks off on Wednesday night in the Sun Belt. The Georgia State Panthers take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers, kickoff is scheduled 7:30p.m. eastern time at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
Georgia State (2-4)
The Panthers started their season with 4 straight losses, but they have won their last 2. They’ve lost to good teams, South Carolina, North Carolina, & Coastal Carolina. The 1-point loss to Charlotte was disappointing considering they’re 1-6. The offense has clicked in their last 2 games against Army and Georgia Southern, more specifically the ground game. They’re rushed for 634 yards in their last 2 games, 299 vs Army and 335 vs Georgia Southern. RB Tucker Gregg leads the team with 460 rushing yards on 101 carries (4.6 YPC) but Jamyest Williams has been the more effective runner, running for 403 yards on 68 carries (5.9 YPC). WR Jamari Thrash leads the team with 30 receptions and 503 yards, but WR Robert Lewis leads the team with 6 touchdowns.
Appalachian State (3-3)
The Mountaineers have failed to string success together. They started off 2-1 with a huge win over #6 TX A&M but have since gone 1-2. QB Chase Brice is the strength of this team, completing 131 of 201 pass attempts (65.2%) for 1,674 yards and 18 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He’s thrown a TD pass in all 6 games so far this season. He went off in last weeks loss to Texas State, throwing for 395 yards and 3 touchdowns. This offense runs through Brice but starting RB Camerun Peoples has been effective when called upon. He’s averaging 6.4 yards per carry on 57 carries this year, good for 366 yards. WR Christian Horn has been Brice’s go to guy the past couple weeks, racking up 215 yards and 2 touchdowns on 9 catches their last 2 games.

Georgia State +10.5. After a “sluggish” start to the season they’re playing great football. They’ve won 2 straight games vs Army and Georgia Southern and have run wild in the process. They rushed for 299 yards against Army and 335 yards vs Georgia Southern. RB’s Tucker Gregg and Jamyest Williams have formed a lethal duo, both going over 100 yards rushing in those 2 games. Georgia State ranks 21st in rushing yards per game at 234.3, something Appalachian State has struggled to stop. App State’s defense has faced just 2 offenses ranked in the top 85 in rushing (77th and 34th) and they’ve combined to go for 345 yards rushing, and that includes a JMU offense that put up 166 yards rushing despite trailing by multiple scores for most of the game. This is the best rushing attack that App State is going to face. On the flip side, App State’s offense goes through the Air, which is where the Panthers defense has been opportunistic. Georgia State ranks 7th in the nation with 15 Takeaways, 10 of which came via the interception. The extra possessions coupled with a lethal ground game will keep this game close. Georgia State is 10-1 ATS L11 games following a straight up win, 7-1 ATS L8 road games, and 7-2 L9 Conference games. App state is just 2-7 ATS their L9, 1-5 ATS L6 Home games, and 0-5 ATS L5 Conference games. The Road team is also 6-1 ATS the last 7 times these two have faced.
