3 Picks (10 Units).
BONUS PICK. 4-5 UNIT PICKS NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS PLAN. 12:10PM EST: Purdue -6.5 (4 Units).
McNeese picked up a nice tournament win over Clemson, but the Tigers got off to a miserable start. After going into halftime down 31-13, Clemson outscored McNeese 54 to 38 in the second half to lose 69-67. Clemson isn't elite offensively and they had an off night from beyond the Arc early in that game. Once they settled into the game and their perimeter shots started to fall, they lit McNeese up from all over the floor. Purdue is 6th in offensive rating, 9th in FG%, and 11th in 3-PT %. The 3-Ball is why we're backing Purdue. McNeese is 78th in opponent 3-PT % which isn't awful but that's against an Offensive Strength of Schedule that ranks 250th. What is bad is their opponent 3-PT Rate which is 352nd. 46.8% of opposing possessions end in a 3-PT shot and that type of Volume spells trouble against Purdue. Unlike Clemson, the Boilermakers are also very good at finishing at the rim. We have Purdue's offense lighting this defense up. Purdue's weak defensively but they're still higher in defensive rating than McNeese is in offensive rating.
2:40PM: Arkansas/ St. John's Under 146.5 (3 Units). Both teams play at an above average pace but it's hard to play fast when it's a grind to get to the rim. St. John's is 1st in defensive rating and Arkansas is 20th. Neither offense shoots well enough to stretch out these defenses, ranking 209th and 329th in 3-PT %. Kansas shot 47.1% from 3 against Arkansas in Round 1 and they were still held to 41.5% from inside the Arc. St. John's just isn't a good shooting team all around, ranking 153rd in 2-PT % too. They do make up for it by hammering the offensive glass, but Arkansas is a better defensive rebounding team than they are offensive. Both teams play elite defense without fouling much, ranking 60th and 79th in fouls per possession. And even if there is a quick whistle in this game, neither team's any good at the charity stripe ranking 121st and 293rd in FT %. It is just hard to see enough offensive efficiency to drive this over the total. Having played 2 days ago also has an impact. St. John's pretty much cruised in Round 1 but Arkansas was in a dog fight down to the wire. 5:15PM EST: Texas A&M -3 (3 Units).
Texas A&M matches up very well against Michigan. Michigan's led by a pair of 7 Footers, ranking 12th in 2-PT %, 193rd in 3-PT %, and 330th in turnovers per possession. Overall, they're 44th in offensive rating. Texas A&M is 9th in defensive rating, 26th in opponent 2-PT %, and 58th in opponent turnovers per possession. A&M is 9th in rebound rate compared to Michigan who ranks 33rd. The Aggies make up for their lack of offense by leading the nation in offensive rebounding % and 2nd chance points per game. With two 7 Footers you'd think Michigan would be elite on the defensive glass, but they're 141st in defensive rebounding %. Even UCSD grabbed 10 offensive rebounds against Michigan in Round 1 and they're 313th in offensive rebounding %.
