The Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves meet for the rubber match of this 3 game set. The Braves took the first game 3-1 but the Cubs won 6-3 in extra innings last night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20PM Eastern Time at Truist Park.
Drew Smyly will start for the Cubs. He’s a journeyman, the Cubs make his 6th team in 5 years. He actually pitched for the Braves in 2021 going 9-4 with a 4.75 era as a starter. He threw a pair of scoreless outings to start the year but his most recent outing saw him allow 4ER in 5IP.
Former first round pick Kyle Wright starts for Atlanta. Through 3 starts and 17IP he’s allowed just 3 ER while striking out 26. He fanned 11 batters in 6 scoreless frames against Miami his last time out. After a few tough years to begin his career he appears the man worthy of the #5 overall selection.
The Braves offense has underperformed to start the year but they have been much better against lefties. Their OPS is .70 points higher against lefties than it is vs righties. Ronald Acuna also makes his much anticipated return tonight to help bolster their offense. Add in the fact that Atlanta is also familiar with Smyly from his time with them last year and they’ll have no problem scoring runs. The Cubs will struggle to get anything going against the dominant young right hander.
Major League Players Club 1 Unit: Atlanta Braves Runline -1.5.
